Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the WEAR system in Final Fantasy VII Revelation is fully unlocked from the start of the game, in an interview published September 10, 2026. The system adds combat styles to each character and is built so players can freely pick a favorite character rather than unlocking options one at a time. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the closing chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy and is set to release on April 8, 2027. A media and influencer preview demo covered the open-world-like regions Mideel, Gold Saucer, Costa del Sol, Wutai, Gongaga, Junon, and Grasslands. Hamaguchi said that demo packed about 20 hours of content, while play sessions ran roughly one hour. A new trailer had recently been released ahead of the demo.

PLAYISM will publish the Japanese console version of Order of the Sinking Star, the puzzle adventure from Thekla, Inc., the studio of Jonathan Blow. PLAYISM announced on September 10 that Devil Connection, the demon-taming adventure game from developer ChaoGames, will launch on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on January 21, 2027. The downloadable version and the smartphone releases cost 2,000 yen including tax. A Switch packaged standard edition is 4,400 yen with a character encyclopedia as a first-print bonus, and a limited edition at 9,800 yen includes a Devilun plush. Kadath Co., Ltd. announced on September 10 the dark fantasy JRPG Under Mythos, planned for release in 2028 on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. The studio was founded in January 2026 by producer Yoichi Miyaji, whose credits include the LUNAR and GRANDIA series, and Under Mythos is its first project. The protagonist is a single cat that wanders into another world while searching for its Mother, arrives at a mysterious hot spring inn where otherworld residents soak, and works there entertaining guests while wishing to reunite with Mother. The game system combines hot spring inn management simulation with extraction: players explore dungeons for ingredients and resources, fight action battles against grotesque transformed beings, and return safely to put the ingredients and rewards back into running the inn. Developing the inn produces new encounters and experiences that lead back to exploration. The familiar world gradually mutates into an unpredictable madness as the story progresses.

Nintendo detailed the second part of the paid Expansion Pass DLC for Pokemon Pokopia during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct. A new Naruto anime film is expected to be announced during a franchise panel at New York Comic Con 2026, according to a Variety exclusive report. The panel, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 10, will also cover the Naruto Card Game. Square Enix gave press outlets early hands-on time with Final Fantasy VII Revelation ahead of its April 8, 2027 release. The demo covered Chapter 4, where players pilot the airship Highwind and can parachute directly from the ship to any destination rather than landing at fixed points. Previewers explored Mideel, a tropical island area new to the remake series, and Wutai, Yuffie's homeland, which was not visitable in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The parachute descent is a real-time sequence, and the Highwind's interior functions as a base with crew interactions. New playable characters Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine join the combat roster. A new system called WEAR lets each character equip job roles including Warrior, Black Mage, Knight, and Summoner, changing their abilities and appearance. The demo contained nine separate routes; outlets played roughly one hour each. A third playable slice of Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set for the Square Enix booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
