DC Studios Announces Joker: Laugh Riot Anime, Absolute Batman, Krypto Series

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation announced three new animated projects during their first joint presentation at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 25. The slate is led by Joker: Laugh Riot, the studio's first anime series. Yasuhiro Aoki directs the series at Sola Entertainment. The story follows the Joker after Batman is killed, sending him on a violent search for the murderer. The series is set for a worldwide release. Also announced was Absolute Batman, an adult animated adaptation of Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta's bestselling comic. Snyder will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Dragotta as a producer. The comic has sold over six million copies since its launch. The third project is Krypto, a family-oriented animated series from Chowder and Jellystone! creator C.H. Greenblatt. The series follows Superman's dog as he befriends a group of aspiring neighborhood criminals. The announcements were made during DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation's Annecy showcase.

Skeleton Knight in Another World Season 2 Trailer Reveals 3 New Cast Members

The second season of the Skeleton Knight in Another World anime has received a new promotional video and key visual, revealing three additional cast members. Mitsuo Iwata, Kento Hama, and Hiroshi Naka join the voice cast as Charos, Ein, and Hanzō, respectively. The season is set to premiere on AT-X on July 4 at 8:30 p.m. JST, with a repeat broadcast on July 6, followed by airings on Tokyo MX and BS11 on July 9. Crunchyroll will stream the series. The second season sees several staff changes from the first season: Toshizo Nemoto takes over series scripts from Takeshi Kikuchi, Chisa Shibata replaces Hideki Inoue as sub-character designer, and Jia Fang Lu replaces Kenta Tsuboi as art director. Aura Studio handles animation production, replacing Studio KAI and HORNETS. Katsumi Ono returns as director, with returning character designer Tōru Imanishi and sound director Satoshi Motoyama. Dr. Stone Anime Concludes After Seven Years and 95 Episodes

The Dr. Stone television anime concluded on June 25, 2026, with the final episode of its fourth and final season, Dr. Stone SCIENCE FUTURE. The adaptation, produced by TMS Entertainment, ran for seven years starting in July 2019 and totaled 95 episodes, including the Ryusui special. The final season aired in three split cours from January 2025 to June 2026. Manga creators Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi released illustrations and comments thanking fans. Voice actors Kana Hanazawa and Kohei Amasaki, who voiced the character Why-Man, also shared remarks. A large-scale animation exhibition commemorating the series' conclusion will open in Tokyo in December, featuring original drawings and setting materials. HiGH&LOW THE New World Announced as Final Film Chapter, Set for 2027

The final chapter of the HiGH&LOW film series, "HiGH&LOW THE New World," was announced on June 24 at a 10th anniversary event in Tokyo. HIRO, the series' planner and producer, surprised attendees with a teaser video and confirmed the film will release in 2027. The story takes place several years after the 2017 film "HiGH&LOW THE MOVIE 3 / FINAL MISSION." Returning cast members include AKIRA as Kohaku, NAOTO as Jesse, and Alan Shirahama as Bernie, all reprising roles after nine years. Kazuma Kawamura and Hokuto Yoshino also join the cast. Directors Norihisa Hiranuma and Motoaki Kuba are helming the project. Hiranuma stated that the film will feature overseas artists and cast members. The teaser video, now on YouTube, shows hand-to-hand combat and armed groups, suggesting a harsher world. The series has drawn 6.21 million cumulative viewers and earned 8.9 billion yen at the box office. A live event, "HiGH&LOW 10th ANNIVERSARY FEVER," will be held at K-Arena Yokohama on September 22 and 23, featuring LDH artists including EXILE THE SECOND and THE RAMPAGE.

Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition Hiroshima Unveils Aquarium and Hotel Collaborations

The immersive ukiyo-e digital art museum, running July 18 to September 6, 2026, at NTT Credo Hall in Hiroshima, has announced collaborations with Hiroshima Motomachi Aquarium and Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima. The aquarium will feature original video and ukiyo-e displays, while the hotel offers themed cocktails and ticket-inclusive stay plans. A workshop and discount campaign are also planned. The exhibition has previously attracted over 500,000 visitors across nine locations including Milan and Paris.
