Nintendo revealed gameplay and new features for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake during a 40th Anniversary Direct on Tuesday, announcing a November 5 launch for the Nintendo Switch 2. The footage previewed revamped visuals in Kokiri Forest, combat in The Great Deku Tree, and exploration across Hyrule Field, Hyrule Castle Town, and Lon Lon Ranch. The remake adds traditional camera controls, motion controls, a jump button, a roll dash action, and a pop-up item menu with ZR button equipping. A Threads of Time menu recaps the story and highlights the next objective. Time now passes in town, and players can hum into the Switch 2 microphone to play music, with ocarina recognition for purchased instruments. Added dialogue expands the original script. The game pairs with the Zelda Notes app, featuring Today's Record progress recaps, Gossip Quests scavenger hunts, and a quiz with over 2,000 questions. Rupees transfer between app and game. New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo, planned for 2027, unlock in-game masks. A 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 console, Pro Controller, and carrying case ship October 29.

Nintendo announced on September 4 via its Nintendo Today app that two presentations will air on consecutive nights in September. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will stream on September 8 at 11:00 PM Japan time, running about 30 minutes. The following evening, September 9 at 11:00 PM, Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9 will air for roughly 45 minutes. That game was previously confirmed for a 2026 launch. Nintendo announced during its Nintendo Direct livestream on Tuesday a remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The remake will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The company showed a narrated trailer featuring protagonist Link. The original Ocarina of Time debuted in November 1998 in the U.S. and Japan, and in December 1998 in Europe and Australia. It is the fifth mainline game in the Zelda series and the first to use 3D graphics. The game has been rereleased on several platforms, including GameCube collection discs, the Wii Virtual Console, and the Nintendo Classics app on Switch. A remastered edition for Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, came out in June 2011. The 3DS version and one GameCube disc included a version with different dungeons called Master Quest, based on a Nintendo 64DD title. A manga adaptation by Akira Himekawa was released in 2000, and Viz Media published it in English. The announcement follows the 2024 release of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the first mainline game starring Zelda as the playable character.
