Final Fantasy is in a period of heavy activity across its many branches. Final Fantasy XIV is the most visible, with the Switch 2 version launching on August 4, 2026, and a free service period of about one month to stabilize servers. The Berlin Fan Festival on July 25-26 unveiled the new tank job Bastion for the Hakkin no Wanderer expansion, set for January 2027, plus a collaboration raid with the Final Fantasy VII Remake series titled BEYOND THE LIFESTREAM, with scenario by Motomu Toriyama, supervision by Kazushige Nojima, and design supervision by Tetsuya Nomura. The Evangelion collaboration raid Ghost of Desire adds animator Mahiro Maeda for numerous designs. Patch 7.56, arriving October 28, brings the Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy VII Remake and a new four-player typing mini-game, Keybound Brawler.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Remake series, is scheduled for spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the series is selling several times more than expected after the announcement at Summer Game Fest 2026, and that the development team has retained over 90% of its staff across the trilogy. New footage will appear at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 26. Hamaguchi also said Square Enix is positively considering a physical package for Revelation.
Anniversary activity is strong. Final Fantasy X turns 25, with a museum exhibition in Tokyo from September 12 to 27 and a trading card game special collection. Final Fantasy XV marks 10 years with a lottery featuring a Noctis figure. Final Fantasy XI is collaborating with Wizardry Variants Daphne in an event running until September 10. Square Enix's first-quarter results, led by Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on new platforms, show the first year-on-year revenue and profit growth in about four and a half years.

Revelation features an open world that players explore from the airship Highwind, with destinations including Midgar's outskirts, green islands, and the ninja nation of Wutai. Characters parachute from the Highwind to reach these areas. The story reunites the party around Cloud to save the planet. New gameplay elements include a Weight Mode that slows time for strategic action selection, and a Wear System where costumes grant special abilities. The game is scheduled for release in spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Hamaguchi posted on X that he looks forward to showing what the team has prepared.

Two new craft beers inspired by Final Fantasy XIV are now available at EXBAR TOKYO plus AKIHABARA, a bar located in the free passage connecting the east and west sides of Akihabara Station, a one-minute walk from the ticket gates. The Fruit Ale "Guiding Light" features a vivid blue color inspired by the Mothercrystal, with a pear aroma and low bitterness. The White Ale "Healer of the Forest" evokes the Black Shroud of Gridania and its clear streams, with a mellow wheat flavor and slightly more bitterness. Both are served through the "Shall We Tap?" beer server, developed by Taito, which lets patrons check characteristics like aroma and sweetness on a touch panel. Prepaid cards can be charged from 1,000 yen, and pour amounts are adjustable. The attached goods store, FINAL FANTASY XIV GOODS SHOP AKIHABARA, offers about 370 types of goods, including plushies, keychains, soundtracks, DVDs, and books, in a space designed to evoke the Gridania market. Since July 31, a 160 cm illuminated Aetheryte monument has greeted visitors at the storefront. A medal tapper lets customers engrave up to 32 characters on medals themed after Ul'dah, Gridania, and Limsa Lominsa. Purchases of 3,000 yen or more earn an original illustration postcard, limited to one per person per day while supplies last.

Drecom has begun running transportation advertisements for the collaboration between Wizardry Variants Daphne and Final Fantasy XI, with displays appearing on the JR Yamanote Line, at 38 stations in the Greater Tokyo area, and inside taxis. The ads, which feature the collaboration's key visual, started appearing on August 1 and August 3, 2026. Static images are shown at stations and on trains, while video ads run on rear-seat monitors inside Tokyo taxis. Display periods vary by medium: station platform bench ads run through August 15, Yamanote Line hanging ads through August 16, and Akihabara Station's large digital signage and taxi in-car ads through August 9. The collaboration itself is a limited-time event, with the interview between the two directors revealing that quests, characters, voices, weapons, battle systems, and dedicated jobs were all built as one-off content. Square Enix's FFXI producer and director, Yoji Fujito, said the volume of content surprised even the supervising team, and Drecom's Daphne director, Keisuke Kanayama, noted the initial plan was cut to about half its original size.

Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi said the Final Fantasy VII Remake series is selling several times more than expected following the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest 2026. In an interview with Automaton, Hamaguchi said the official announcement and trailer received a very good response, with over 30 media interviews in North America and Europe plus additional interviews in China. He noted that the PC market, particularly in Simplified Chinese-speaking regions, has become incredibly strong, comparable to English-speaking regions. Hamaguchi also discussed how user feedback from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth influenced development of the new title, including making mini-games skippable and adjusting rewards. He said the development team has retained over 90% of its staff across the trilogy, a fact that surprised overseas observers. Regarding physical releases, Hamaguchi said he personally favors physical versions and that Square Enix is positively considering a physical package for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, though platform regulations and media capacity are under discussion. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
