Yutaka Mizutani is back as Ukyo Sugishita in Aibou season 25, the season that TV Asahi will air for two consecutive seasons starting in October. The series began in 2000, and the Sugishita and Kameyama Kaoru duo enter their 12th year together, setting a record as the longest-running current drama series in Japan.
The most recent story changes the shape of that duo. Season 25 premieres October 21, Wednesdays at 21:00, with an extended first episode titled "PM Crisis." Yasufumi Terawaki plays Kaoru Kameyama, but the partner role passes to Mitsuhiro Oikawa as Takashi Kobe partway through the season. Mizutani's Sugishita stays in place across the handover, so the show pairs him with a returning Kobe rather than resetting the duo at episode one.
TV Asahi will rebroadcast six selected Ukyo and Kaoru episodes from October 14, ahead of the premiere. The two stories together establish the record run and the mid-season switch. They do not say how many episodes the season runs or how the handover is written.
