A3 Inc.'s online lottery eeo Kuji began sales of DELUTAYA merchandise on October 21, 2026, running through November 11. Each draw costs 880 yen including tax, with delivery scheduled for around late December 2026. Prizes use new illustrations on a wedding theme: an S Prize canvas board, A Prize acrylic stands, B Prize big acrylic keychains, C Prize acrylic cards, and D Prize can badges. Buyers get one random illustration card per five draws in a single transaction.
Amazon Japan lists the fifth collected volume of Kumo Kagyu and artist Koutarou Sekine's Moscow 2160 as the series' final book. The volume ships on December 25. Sekine and Kagyu launched the manga in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan in December 2022, with Noboru Kannatsuki on character design. Square Enix shipped the fourth volume in December 2025. SB Creative released a light novel adaptation by Kagyu in June 2023.
Hoshi no Uta ga Kikoeru, a 117-minute anime film made with generative AI across roughly 1,500 cuts, went free on YouTube on October 22, 2026, Anime Day. A three-person team did about three months of actual work, starting in April 2026 and resuming in August after a suspension. Director Hirotaka Yuno based the story on his own experiences and says the film is not aimed at profit.
Eyewear brand Zoff opened web pre-orders on October 21, 2026 for "Zoff | Bungo Stray Dogs," a six-model glasses collection built around the TV anime. Each frame is 12,200 yen with set lenses included, and every pair ships with an original case and a cloth printed with an anime scene. The six characters are Atsushi Nakajima, Osamu Dazai, Ranpo Edogawa, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Chuuya Nakahara and Fyodor D. Designs draw on each character's ability, hair color and costume: a tiger paw motif for Atsushi Nakajima, bandage details on the Osamu Dazai hinge, and the words "Crime and Punishment" inside the Fyodor D temples. Temple tips carry a metal plate for the character's affiliation, either the Armed Detective Agency, the Port Mafia or the Rats in the House of the Dead. Pre-orders close November 25, 2026, with shipping to start sequentially from late July 2027. Orders are online only; Zoff stores will not take reservations.
RocketWerkz and Ahwoo, led by DayZ developer Dean Hall, released the game development framework BRUTAL on October 15, 2026. Built on C# and .NET with C++ libraries and Vulkan, it is meant as a foundation for custom engines rather than a complete engine like Unity or Unreal. It is free for commercial use with no royalties, though the license requires credit and a logo display.
Atsutake Kosuge, an associate professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Engineering, is working to make LSI development cheap and quick enough for non-specialists, using JST's Advanced International Collaborative Research Program (ASPIRE). LSI design costs have risen as generative AI and IoT demand push global chip development, leaving university teams with limited resources struggling to keep up. ASPIRE requires Japanese teams to send young researchers abroad to join international networks.
taskey announced Midnight Toybox on October 19, 2026, a turn-based horror board game for PC via Steam, with a demo released the same day and a full release planned for early December 2026 at an undecided price. The game is set in a child's room at midnight, where the player is the night's newcomer, dragged into a death game by modified toys. All pieces on the board look identical, but some are infantry and some are bombers. The player wins by taking three of the opponent's infantry, by making the opponent take three of the player's bombers, or by advancing an infantry piece to the far end of the opponent's territory. Because a piece's identity stays unknown until it is taken, reading the opponent's intent is the core of play. Tactic cards add special movement, card stealing, and the ability to count an acquired piece as two. Midnight Toybox is the first title in taskey's game business, developed and published by its horror label Rabidbit Games.
The Futari Ecchi OVA adaptations, the 2002 release, the 2003 second season, and the 2014 OVA, are available for unlimited streaming on DMM TV and d Anime Store. Amazon Prime Video carries the series as a rental at 330 yen for SD, and TSUTAYA DISCAS offers DVD delivery rental. U-NEXT, Netflix, Hulu, Lemino, Disney Plus, FOD, ABEMA, TELASA, and YouTube do not carry it, and TVer has no catch-up stream.
Comikey licensed Mato Kauta's The Wolf King's Bride manga and released the first five chapters digitally, with new chapters every Friday. Kauta serialized the title in Hakusensha's LaLa magazine from 2009 to 2018; it ran 19 volumes and had no previous English release. Comikey had said in August it would release several Hakusensha shojo titles in English digitally and teased an image that included this manga.
Producer Kazutaka Iida looked back on Episode 20 of TBS's Sunday Theater drama VIVANT, which aired on October 11, and told Cinema Today that filming in Azerbaijan showed him "a point that is very different from Season 1." Iida said the characters are now connected to the "outside world," pointing to scenes of villagers entrusting their future to the rescue team led by Nogi Yusuke (Masato Sakai). The episode had that team storm Shaki Castle in the Republic of Gorbad to free five captured members of the separate squad, including Kurosu (Tori Matsuzaka), from the organization Shinshi. Iida said the castle scenes were shot night after night until morning, and that rain unusual for the season kept falling during filming, including at Lahij village. Japanese and Azerbaijani staff, cast, and local residents worked together under those conditions. He said the next episode is the escape arc, airing October 18, and noted viewer reaction to the preview line about what Tojo is doing.
C#4R4CT3R, a game label based in Shibuya, Tokyo, released the Steam demo for Rain98 on October 17, 2026. The psycho-suspense adventure is set in 1998 Tokyo, where a young man who time-slips from the present day shares a one-room apartment with Amahara Reina, a heroine who says she is Angolmois, the Great King of Terror from Nostradamus's prophecy. Reina wants to destroy the world in July 1999, and needs heat, the stirring of her heart, to do it. The player earns Angel Seals by interacting with her, pastes 100 of them into an Angel Passport, and completes the ritual. The demo covers the story's first two chapters. It adds playable content beyond the build shown at Tokyo Game Show 2026. A hands-on event ran at UKIYO GAME BAR & CAFE in Yurakucho, where a collaboration cocktail called Melancholy Blue was served. The full version is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC via Steam.
Dean Hall, creator of DayZ, has released the BRUTAL game development framework and its source code through his studio RocketWerkz. BRUTAL is used in RocketWerkz's Kitten Space Agency and was provided as the foundation for Waylith, the engine built for Ludeon Studios' RimWorld. It is open source under the MIT License and free for commercial works, with conditions: credit, copyright and logo on the startup screen, and the NOTICE file.
Konami Arcade Games disclosed in the Konami Group integrated report published on October 15 that it is considering a reboot of the jubeat series, part of a reboot strategy to revisit past hit music games. Yoshitaka Nishimura, head of the arcade game business, said the aim is to involve people who have never played music games and energize amusement facilities.
Kei Urana said Thursday on X that Gachiakuta will resume on November 11. Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine had said on September 8 that it would announce a return date once one was set. The magazine's last new chapter ran in the combined 36th and 37th issue that shipped on August 5, and its site has since listed the series as on hiatus for Urana's research.
Medicos Entertainment is running a Bunny Garden 2 pop up shop at MEDICOS SHOP Shibuya from October 15 to October 27, with free admission. The first day, October 15, uses a shuffle lottery and numbered tickets. Asahara Giken's AI VTuber Izumi Asahara is at CEATEC 2026 through October 16 at Makuhari Messe, in the QD Laser booth in Hall 8. Visitors speak to her on a monitor and the nearby stage and blue laser move without an operator, scanning a coin-sized disc to build 3D point cloud data on screen. QD Laser, Taiwan's Ultimems, and Asahara Giken hold the exhibit jointly.
Hololive Production marks its ninth anniversary with "hololive Grand Reception: An Invitation of Gratitude," an exhibition running at TOKYO DREAM PARK 7F in Ariake, Tokyo. The event runs in two halves, October 10 to 28 and October 31 to November 23, closed October 29 and 30 for the display changeover. Sixty-three female talents appear in party dresses designed for the event.
Model and actor UTA has been named ambassador for DC Studios' Clayface, which opens in theaters across Japan on October 30. An interview video with UTA was released alongside the announcement. Apple announced its first smart display, the Apple HomeView, on October 13, 2026. The device pairs a 7-inch display with a dome-shaped base connected by a stainless steel hinge, and a woofer sits inside the base. It ships in Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink, and Space Gray, priced at $299. The HomeView launches November 13 in the United States and seven other English-speaking markets: Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and South Africa. ASCII.jp reports no Japanese release date is set. Siri AI anchors the software. The HomeView recognizes up to six family members and builds a personalized home screen for each. Paired with an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad, it pulls calendar entries, messages, and Apple Music playlists onto the screen, and Siri AI conversations continue across Apple devices. Two full-range drivers sit on the display side, with a woofer and passive radiator in the base; computational audio runs on an A18 chip.
A special program hosted by Roboco, Shirakami Fubuki, Ookami Mio, and Houshou Marine showed new details for HoloLive Mahjong -HoloJan-, the free-to-play mahjong app releasing in 2026. Yutaka Mizutani returns as Ukyo Sugishita, and TV Asahi will rebroadcast six selected Ukyo and Kaoru episodes from October 14.
Futabasha's Action Comics released Volume 9 of Sachiko Orihara's Oshikake Gal no Nakamura-san on October 8. To mark it, web Action runs all 35 chapters free until November 7, and Nico Nico Manga runs 44 chapters free until November 6 alongside a newly drawn bonus chapter and weekly Saturday updates. Amazon Kindle offers Volumes 1 to 3 free until November 4, and bookstores carry separate bonuses.
The figma Goro Inogashira Yutaka Matsushige ver. released in 2018 is being renewed. The Renewal Edition Nostalgic Set-Meal Restaurant Set, scheduled for September 2026, adds three newly sculpted face parts (normal, hungry, satisfied), a table and chairs, food accessories, hand parts and a paper-craft diorama of a small eatery. Producer Kazutaka Iida explained why Season 2 of the TBS Sunday Theater drama VIVANT introduced dubbing, in remarks published on October 10. The multinational team led by protagonist Yugo Nogi (Masato Sakai) uses simultaneous interpretation devices that render Japanese, Mongolian, Thai, Azerbaijani, and Chinese dialogue, and the voices of characters wearing those devices were replaced with dubbing by a separate cast of voice actors. Iida said the C layer (ages 4 to 12) and T layer (ages 13 to 19) in the show's viewer demographic are increasing, and that dubbing lets children who cannot yet read watch without strain. He also recalled that during location scouting in Azerbaijan, local staff said they had watched Season 1 on streaming but could not read all the English subtitles. The director had been raising the importance of dubbing since before Season 2 entered production and devised the interpretation device as the in-story method. Episode 20 airs on October 11.
NHK announced on Friday, October 9, the hosts of the 77th Kohaku Uta Gassen: Mana Ashida, Masato Sakai, Kazunari Ninomiya, and announcer Nahoko Suzuki. The 2026 theme is "Koe te ikou, uta to tomo ni." Sakai and Ninomiya play sworn brothers in the TBS drama VIVANT, whose sequel airs from July for two consecutive cours. The show airs live December 31, 7:20 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.
Ken Kutaragi, the creator of the PlayStation, spoke at the opening ceremony for the University of Electro-Communications' Center for Entertainment Research and Education on September 29, 2026, where he said the game industry's tipping point is still ahead. In a follow-up interview, Kutaragi said he wants to use AI to the fullest and described AI as a partner that evolves together with the developer.

The standard and download editions are 8,580 yen, and the special edition is 15,180 yen, all prices including tax. The title is a Switch port of the PS Vita game Re:BIRTHDAY SONG ~Love-Singing Grim Reaper~ another record, released in 2016.
At The Tenth Mosaic, a game culture festival held at the Institut francais du Japon in Tokyo on September 22 and 23, Kazutaka Kodaka and Masafumi Takada discussed how Danganronpa's story and music shaped each other. Takada said he wrote the theme song "DANGANRONPA" in about 20 minutes after putting the title into the lyrics, and the Monokuma design arrived in roughly five minutes.
At The Tenth Mosaic in Tokyo on September 22 and 23, Too Kyo Games CEO Kazutaka Kodaka and music producer Masafumi Takada discussed how they work together, from Danganronpa through Rain Code and Hundred Line. Kodaka said Danganronpa sold about 30,000 copies in its first week and grew over roughly half a year, and described why he keeps development outside the studio.
Movie Detective PreCure! The Mysterious Garden and the Two Secrets opened on September 18 and drew 440 million yen and more than 357,000 admissions in three days. New stills show Cure Idol, Cure Wink, and Cure KyunKyun from Kimi to Idol PreCure alongside Cure Wonderful, Cure Friendly, Cure Nyammy, and Cure Lillian from Wonderful PreCure. Satoru Toyama and Daifuku also appear and transform.
A website opened on Tuesday to announce that Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi are directing the feature-length anime film Cosmoship Yamato √2199 at Production I.G and Studio Khara. Anno is credited for planning, executive production and design works, with Izubuchi on design works. Production I.G founder Mitsuhisa Ishikawa shares the planning credit, and Shin Office Academy is presenting the project. The √ symbol in the title is pronounced "Root." Anno commented that he wants to keep making Yamato to fulfill a childhood dream and to carry the wishes of his own and the next generation. The announcement came on October 6, the anniversary of the original Space Battleship Yamato television premiere in 1974. A teaser visual shows the Yamato attempting to launch from a devastated land toward space. A release date is not yet decided. Production began in 2024, when Anno first announced he was working on a new Yamato theatrical anime with new footage.

Ken Kutaragi, the university alumnus known as the Father of PlayStation, spoke with President Masakazu Muramatsu. He said games are at a major turning point and discussed what people the AI era needs.
2P START opened the Steam store page for Ekakiuta Daigassen on September 29, 2026. Up to four players draw at the same time along to a drawing song, with the subject kept hidden until the song ends, and the closest picture wins. The game enters Early Access on PC via Steam on October 1 at 17:00, priced at 580 yen.

Toei Animation announced on October 1 that Season 4 of the Precure spin-off short anime "Petit Cure ~Precure Fairies~" began streaming on YouTube the same day. Season 4 adds Choppy from Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash☆Star, Rachel from Doki Doki! Precure, Latte from Healin' Good Precure and Pam-Pam from Delicious Party Precure to the cast.
The Spain Game Festival, an invitation-only business networking event hosted by the Spanish Trade and Investment Agency and the Embassy of Spain, was held on September 16 at Kanda Myojin Hall in Tokyo. Gonzalo Ramos of the embassy's economic office said 35 Spanish companies and organizations exhibited as "Games from Spain" at Tokyo Game Show 2026, and six Spanish titles were selected for SELECTED INDIE 80. Kazutaka Kodaka appeared as an event VIP.
Psyren, the anime adaptation of Toshiaki Iwashiro's manga, begins broadcasting October 5 on TOKYO MX, BS11, and other stations, every Monday at 23:00. Streaming starts the same night at 23:30. Satelight handles animation production. The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2008 to 2010 and follows first-year student Ageha Yoshina, who is drawn into a life-or-death game after a red telephone card sends him to a wasteland.
The University of Electro-Communications held an opening ceremony on September 29 for CEREC, a research and education hub focused on games. Ken Kutaragi, known as the creator of the PlayStation, joined university president Masakazu Muramatsu for a panel discussion. CEREC director Takuya Nojima outlined the center, established in January 2026, and a game production program starting in October.
The staff for the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend film announced on Saturday that first-week moviegoers in Japan will receive a bonus short story written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi. Titled Seishun Buta Yaro wa Tea Garden no Yume o Miru, it follows Sakuta, Mai and Shoko after a shopping trip. The film opens in Japan on October 16.
Award held X VORDER RUNWAY at Makuhari Messe's Exhibition Halls 1-4 on September 27. The event combined a fashion runway with a music live, with performers including Suisei Hoshimachi, HIMEHINA, Sara Hoshikawa, Kaf, Chun-Li, Rise Kujikawa, Haruka Amami, Chihaya Kisaragi, Miki Hoshii, and Nanawo Akari, among others. Mika Pikazo designed every costume, and Kohei Tanaka handled the theme song Kousaku OMNIVERSE.
Toonami will begin airing the Wind Breaker and Gachiakuta anime in the United States on October 10 and 17, which fall on the nights of October 11 and 18. The block also adds the Get Jiro! animated series on October 10. Wind Breaker, adapted from Satoru Nii's manga, premiered in April 2024 with a second season in April 2025. Gachiakuta, from Kei Urana's manga, premiered in Japan in July 2025 and will get a second season.
Saber Interactive brought a playable build of Turok: Origins to Tokyo Game Show 2026, where press tried a jungle mission and a Tyrannosaurus boss fight. The game is a prequel to the original Turok and supports switching between third-person and first-person views, plus online co-op for up to three players. Players pick one of three Primal Forms: Raven, Cougar, or Bison. Each form has a dedicated melee weapon and its own finisher animations. In the demo, loadouts were fixed, but the full version lets players equip any weapon regardless of form and choose from more than 15 Echo Sync abilities. Character growth runs through Primal Form skill trees, Talismans dropped by bosses, Mutagens found in the world, and more than 270 Mods for weapons and Echo Syncs. The main campaign is roughly 12 hours. Turok: Origins is scheduled for release in spring 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Crazy Raccoon announced the participating teams for the 11th Crazy Raccoon Cup Apex Legends. The Apex Legends tournament takes place October 4, 2026, starting at 17:00, with 20 teams of three players each, 60 participants in total. TEAM 01 combines Hey! Say! JUMP member Ryosuke Yamada, also known as LEO, YouTuber HIKAKIN, and former professional player cheeky. TEAM 02 pairs Ras, SHAKA, and Kuzuha. Other rosters include Amatsuki, Yuuta Seki, and Haseshin on TEAM 03, plus VTubers Kuzuha, Lauren Iroas, Ibrahim, Fuwa Minato, Tokoyami Towa, Shibuya Hal, Ichinose Uruha, and Nekota Tsuna across the field. Play-by-play goes to Hiraiwa Kosuke, with Alelu on commentary. Practice scrims begin October 1, three days before the main event. Crazy Raccoon organizes the tournament, and the announced field mixes streamers, VTubers, and competitive players.

Koei Tecmo Games held a stage event for Nobunaga's Ambition: Flight at Tokyo Game Show 2026 on September 19. Producer Liu Di appeared with professional mahjong players Kotaro Uchikawa and Kei Nakabayashi, who built castle towns live while Liu commented. The stage focused on town-building internal affairs, a system absent from the series for about 20 years. The game is in development for Switch 2, PS5, and Switch, with a release planned for this winter.
Indie developer Actor opened a Steam store page for Astral Projection Battle, a PC multiplayer horror FPS and the latest entry in the Sukunomono Series. The game follows protagonist Aihara Baku on Kannagijima, an island where astral projection phenomena are increasing, and supports co-op for up to four players who combine fire, ice, lightning, blood, and wind attributes with abilities. It includes an Endless Mode and two endings.
Com2uS Group announced the official title GACHIAKUTA : BREAKOUT for its survival action RPG based on Kei Urana's Gachiakuta manga, unveiling the name and gameplay footage during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast on September 17, 2026. The game is set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It was previously shown under the working title Gachiakuta: The Game. The trailer features combat scenes including the character Jabber fighting with giant claws, along with cutscene direction. The project is described as an effort to recreate the atmosphere of the anime in game form and to let players enter the series' setting. Urana launched the manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022, and Kodansha published the 19th compiled volume on July 16. The television anime adaptation debuted in July 2025 and ended its broadcast in December 2025 with its 24th episode. A second season has been announced.
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Smilegate Megaport showed a demo of Dead Account: Two Blue Flames, a roguelite action RPG based on Shizuku Watanabe's manga Dead Account, serialized on Magazine Pocket. Players lead a team of up to five mediums in quarter-view battles, controlling only the leader while the other four act automatically. The PC version is planned for STOVE, with an Android version also listed.
