The announcement marks the end of a dedicated branding effort that bridged Japanese players to international releases for over a decade and a half.

Square Enix announced on July 8 that the free-to-play RPG Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will end service on October 7, 2026 at 15:00 JST. It was billed as another possibility of the Final Fantasy VII remake and featured stories from across the compilation series, including original content like the Young Sephiroth arc. The film is an omnibus of three stories with distinct worldviews: "Aeliens," "4649 Girl" (pronounced "Yoroshiku Shojo"), and "Nocturne: Kono Grotesque na Yoru ni." Nishigori directs, writes the screenplay, and designs the characters. The opening theme is "Shoot Shoot Shoot" by the band METALVERSE. A trailer and key visual were released. The cast includes Kana Ichinose, Gen Hoshino, Chika Anzai, Maaya Uchida, Rumi Okubo, Rie Kugimiya, Miyu Tomita, Ikumi Hasegawa, Saori Hayami, Sara Minami, and four members of Nogizaka46: Nagi Inoue, Aruno Nakanishi, Miku Ichinose, and Nao Tomisato. The film is produced by CloverWorks and comes from JOEN, the company jointly established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and Shueisha. The film will make its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, running from July 16 to August 2.

Researcher and engineer David Noel Ng built a device that generates random numbers from photon detection and created a web app called A Quantum Magic 8-Ball. The app randomly selects one of 20 pre-written answers using the quantum random numbers. The device uses an ultraviolet LED, a beam splitter, and photomultiplier tubes to read photon paths as coin tosses.
