Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic released Gothic 1 Remake on June 6, 2026, for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S. The full remake of the 2001 open-world RPG retains the original's faction-driven story and harsh colony setting while adding modern combat, deeper quests, and Japanese text support. The PC and Xbox versions launched on schedule, but the Japanese PS5 download version was delayed twice: first to July 16, 2026, for expression adjustments, then to November 24, 2026, again for thorough preparation including market-specific adjustments. The game saw strong commercial and critical reception. Within its first week, it sold over 500,000 copies and peaked at 78,000 concurrent players on Steam, rising to approximately 80,000. THQ Nordic issued an accolade trailer on June 23, 2026, compiling positive scores from 8 to 9 out of 10 from media and players worldwide. The publisher also acknowledged crash issues and controversial design elements like lockpicking after launch, promising fixes and continued feedback integration.

The Japanese PS5 version's repeated delays reflect THQ Nordic's treatment of the Japanese market as a distinct localization effort. The game's commercial success on other platforms-500,000 copies sold in the first week and a strong concurrent player count-demonstrates that a faithful remake of a cult classic can find a large modern audience without major franchise recognition. The developer, Alkimia Interactive, handled the remake, and the original game was created by Piranha Bytes.
