Godzilla Minus Zero Teaser Reveals New Cast, IMAX Filming, Global Release

TOHO and Anime Limited have announced Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to Takashi Yamazaki's Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. A new teaser trailer and poster were released on July 9, 2026, confirming that Min Tanaka joins the cast as biologist Kanji Murakami. Returning cast members include Ryūnosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, and Hidetaka Yoshioka from the first film. The film is the first Japanese production to be advertised as 'Filmed for IMAX.' It will open in Japan on November 3, 2026, which is Godzilla Day, commemorating the original 1954 film's release. The same week, it will open in North America on November 6, and in the United Kingdom and Ireland on November 6 as well, distributed by Anime Limited. This marks the first time a Japan-produced Godzilla film will open near-simultaneously in Japan and major Western markets. Yamazaki returns as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor, with Naoki Satō composing the music. Production is underway at TOHO Studios with ROBOT and Shirogumi.

Godzilla -0.0 Special News Video Premieres July 9

The official X account for 'Godzilla -0.0' (Godzilla Minus Zero) announced a 30-second special news video will premiere on YouTube at 22:55 JST on July 9. The film, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, is the 31st live-action Godzilla movie, set in 1949 Japan. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles. The film releases nationwide November 3.

The set includes a Godzilla head and a Biollante head that open to reveal action figures, diorama scenery, and multiple interactive features such as atomic breath effects, a separable Super X2, and light-up potential difference generators. Godzilla Vs. Evangelion Unit-02 Figure Returns in Metallic Ver.

Premium Bandai opens pre-orders July 3 for a metallic repaint of the Deforeal Evangelion Unit-02 Beast "G" Mode figure, a Godzilla vs. Evangelion crossover piece depicting Unit-02 eroded by G-cells. The 17cm PVC figure costs 16,500 yen and ships in September 2026.

S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla (2003) and Type-3 Kiryu Announced From Tokyo SOS

Bandai Spirits announced S.H.MonsterArts figures of Godzilla (2003) and Type-3 Kiryu from the 2003 film Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS. The Godzilla figure, sculpted by Yuji Sakai, stands 155mm tall and releases in December 2026 for 12,100 yen. The Type-3 Kiryu figure, which can swap between Heavy Armed and High Mobility types, uses die-cast parts and releases in January 2027 for 19,800 yen. Pre-orders open July 1, 2026.

BANDAI SPIRITS has revealed the full lineup for its upcoming Ichiban Kuji lottery, featuring Godzilla (2001) Owakudani Appearance Ver. and Battra (Larva) SOFVICS figures, charm collections, head magnets, and a Last One Prize Godzilla Night Battle variant. Prime 1 Studio Shows New Statues at NEXT LEVEL SHOWCASE XVIII Exhibition

Prime 1 Studio held a new product exhibition in Tokyo in June 2026, displaying statue figures announced during the online event NEXT LEVEL SHOWCASE XVIII. The exhibition featured statues from Godzilla Minus One, including Godzilla vs. Shinsei Maru; the theatrical Chainsaw Man - Reze Arc, with figures of Chainsaw Man & Beam and Reze/Bomb; and Overlord. Masters of the Universe statues of He-Man and Skeletor were shown, alongside The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Treebeard with Merry & Pippin. Items from Aliens and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were also on display. A separate part of the exhibition focused on Berserk, unveiling statues of Guts, Griffith, Zodd, Slan, and the Sea God's Whore. The exhibition was held at a location in Tokyo, and Dengeki Hobby Web published photo reports covering the new items.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the film 'Shin Godzilla', Premium Bandai is reissuing the DefoReal Godzilla (2016) Awakening Light Ver. figure. Pre-orders open June 24, 2026, at 12:00 JST. The 14 cm figure features a lighting gimmick for the mouth, neck, dorsal fins, tail fins, and tail tip. It uses the same mold as the 2019 release. Price is 17,600 yen, shipping in September 2026.

Biollante Returns to S.H.MonsterArts as Wakasa Bay Decisive Battle Ver.

Bandai Spirits is re-releasing the S.H.MonsterArts Biollante figure from Godzilla vs. Biollante as the Wakasa Bay Decisive Battle Ver. Pre-orders open June 25, 2026, at the Tamashii Web Shop. The figure is sculpted by Fuyuki Shinada, who created the original filming suit. It features a poster-based color scheme with brush-painted highlights, glossy water-soaked effects, and a light-up gimmick with red and orange modes. Price is 33,000 yen, shipping in December 2026.

Godzilla Station Pop-Up Shop Opens at Kyoto Station for First Time

The Godzilla series pop-up shop GODZILLA STATION will be held at JR Kyoto Station from June 26 to July 5, 2026. It marks the first time the event, previously held mainly in Kanto and eastern Japan, takes place in the Kansai region. The shop will offer limited-edition figures, apparel, and miscellaneous goods from manufacturers including CCPJAPAN, PLEX, and Newwell.

Mintrocket, the developer behind Dave the Diver, announced Godzilla Defense Force: X, a strategy management simulation for smartphones. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Adds Godzilla and Evangelion, Sonic Pico Park Announced

During the Summer Game Fest 2026 stream on June 6, Sega announced two new Sonic projects. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will feature collaboration content with Godzilla and Evangelion. Separately, a new action puzzle game titled SONIC PICO PARK was unveiled, a crossover between the Sonic the Hedgehog series and the cooperative puzzle game PICO PARK. SONIC PICO PARK supports 2 to 8 players and shows Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy rendered in pixel art. The game is in development for PC via Steam, with no release date set. It is part of the Sonic the Hedgehog 35th anniversary lineup. No platforms or release timing were given for the Sonic Racing CrossWorlds collaborations either.

Good Smile Fest 2026 Reveals Nendoroid Lineup Including K-On!, Fate, and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Good Smile Company streamed its 'Nendoroid FUNS Good Smile Fest 2026' on June 4, 2026, unveiling a wide range of new Nendoroid figures. The event showcased colored samples and prototypes for numerous upcoming releases. Highlights included a 2.0 version of Mio Akiyama from 'K-On!', Saber in casual wear from 'Fate/stay night', and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon from 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'. Vocaloid characters such as Neru Akita and Haku Yowane also received new Nendoroid forms. Newly announced figures span multiple franchises: from 'Final Fantasy XIV', characters Alphinaud, Yotsuyu, and Emet-Selch were confirmed; from 'Goddess of Victory: NIKKE', Velvet; and from 'Danganronpa 1·2 Reload', Celestia Ludenberg. MegaHouse Adds Destoroyah Perfect Form To UA Monsters Figure Line

MegaHouse is adding Destoroyah (Perfect Form) from the 1995 film 'Godzilla vs. Destoroyah' to its UA Monsters figure series. The large-scale figure stands approximately 36 cm to the head and 41 cm with wings, with a total width of about 65 cm. It features LED light-up and sound gimmicks that reproduce the Oxygen Destroyer Ray and Variable Slicer attacks. Pre-orders open June 5, 2026, at 13:00 JST through Premium Bandai, AmiAmi, and other retailers. The figure is priced at 59,180 yen and is scheduled for release in December 2026.

Toho Acquires UK Distributor Anime Limited, Establishes European HQ in London

Toho, the Japanese entertainment company behind Godzilla Minus One, announced on December 19 that it has acquired all shares of Glasgow-based anime distributor Anime Limited from Germany's Plaion Pictures. The acquisition gives Toho immediate distribution capabilities in the UK and France across theatrical, home video, TV, streaming, and merchandise. Toho will also establish a European regional headquarters in London, led by Toho Global, its overseas business division. Anime Limited founder and managing director Andrew Partridge will join the leadership team of the new European base. In a parallel move, Toho and Plaion Pictures have agreed to a strategic alliance, with Plaion extending Toho's distribution reach into Germany, Italy, and other European markets. The deal follows Toho's acquisition of US distributor GKIDS in October 2024 and the launch of a Singapore-based Asian hub in November 2024. Toho cited the European anime market's estimated value of $4.77 billion in 2024, projected to reach $9.05 billion by 2030, as context for the expansion. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Director and Special Effects Artist Yoshihiro Nishimura Dies at 59

Yoshihiro Nishimura, the Japanese film director and special effects artist known for his work on Shin Godzilla, the live-action Attack on Titan film, and his own cult horror films such as Tokyo Gore Police, died on Monday at age 59 after a battle with liver disease. He was in post-production on his upcoming film Geisha War at the time of his death.
