Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamaguchi and director and lead battle designer Kazutoshi Sekine gave interviews about MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls, the Marvel fighting game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and released in August 2026 on PS5 and PC. The game uses a 4v4 tag battle system, and Sekine said the format was chosen to express the Marvel team-up world and to deepen team tactics through many character combinations. The game supports both traditional command inputs and simple one-button controls such as Quick Skills and Link Attacks, so players can start with a single character. The team confirmed Phoenix Cyclops as the first Year 1 DLC character, currently in development. The interview also covered Deadpool's parody easter eggs, which Sekine said are not all discovered yet, and PC performance. Yamaguchi said two emergency patches were released on August 10 and August 21 to reduce CPU load and frame drops, and the team considers the CPU load now comparable to or lighter than other Arc System Works fighting games.

Twin Engine announced on August 19 that stage greetings for the revival screenings of Super Kaguya-hime! will take place on September 20 at three theaters. Yuko Natsuyoshi, Anna Nagase, Saori Hayami, and director Seigo Yamashita will reunite for five shows, their first gathering since February.

The Pokemon official YouTube channel released the new POKETOON short Kameil to, Natsu no Tsuzuki on August 12. The story follows a boy named Rikuto who visits his grandmother on an island and meets a long-lived Kameil whose tail color differs and whose shell has moss. The animation was produced by Studio Colorido and Studio Churutto, with Seigo Yamashita directing.

The Pokémon Company released a new POKÉTOON short titled "Kameil to Natsu no Tsuzuku" (Wartortle and the Ongoing Summer) on its official YouTube channel on August 12. Shingo Yamashita, known for his opening direction on JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1 and Chainsaw Man Season 1, directed the short at Studio Chromato and Studio Colorido. The story follows a boy named Rikuto who visits his grandmother on an island at the end of summer and meets a Wartortle with a differently colored tail and a moss-covered shell. The Wartortle turns out to have been friends with Rikuto's father 30 years earlier. Aya Satsuki wrote the script, Riiki Miura designed the characters and served as chief animation director, and Kyosuke Kagawa composed the music. The cast includes Sayaka Senbongi as Rikuto, Kana Hanazawa as Wartortle, Tasuku Hatanaka as Gaku, Akiko Hiramatsu as Shuri, Natsumi Haruse as Leafeon, and Michiyo Murase as Bellsprout. Yamashita previously directed Pokémon: Twilight Wings in 2020 and the 2021 POKÉTOON episode "Yume no Tsubomi," both animated by Studio Colorido.

The live-action series adaptation of Tamifull's How Do We Relationship? manga revealed a main visual and seven new cast members on Tuesday. The series premieres on MBS on September 10, starring Riho Sayashi as Saeko Sawatari and Sakurako Konishi as Miwa Inuzuka. Kana Yamada directs episodes 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8, with Sunhye Hong directing episodes 4, 5, and 7.

Twin Engine launched the web manga label Bibibi Comic on August 7 with 31 titles, including Chou Kaguya Meshi!, an official spinoff of the film Chou Kaguya-hime! set ten years after the movie. The spinoff is written by Teruya based on a plot by director Yamashita. A commemorative issue is on sale at bookstores.

The official Evangelion side novel Evangelion ANIMA, written by mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita, is being adapted into an audiobook. Volume 1 is available on Audible, with subsequent volumes releasing from around August 2026. Narrator Sasaki Aitani voices multiple characters.

Kotobukiya announced a Bishoujo series figure of Hasbro's Furby, designed by Shunya Yamashita. The figure depicts Furby as a gal-style character with a fluffy jacket, platform boots, and removable sunglasses. A mini Furby figure with blinking eyes is included. It is priced at 25,300 yen and ships in March 2027.

GKIDS announced during its Anime Expo panel on Sunday several home video releases, including a 4K UHD Collector's Edition for Look Back on September 8, a 4K UHD Collector's Edition for the 4K remaster of Angel's Egg on September 22, and a Blu-ray Disc release for Hideaki Anno's live-action film Love & Pop on October 6.

Inklore announced at Anime Expo 2026 that it has licensed Tomoko Yamashita's Ikoku Nikki manga. The first volume will be released in print in summer 2027. The manga, which ran from 2017 to 2023, follows novelist Makio Kōdai and her niece Asa living together after Asa's parents die. It has received multiple award nominations and inspired a live-action film and a TV anime.

ASMIK Ace unveiled the teaser video, visual, main cast, staff, and 2027 premiere for the TV anime adaptation of Monsho Sakakibara's light novel series The Reincarnated Elf Left on a Journey to Master His Magic and With His Extra Lifespan Became a Living Legend. Daiki Yamashita and Hana Hishikawa star, with Yuki Inaba directing at Studio Palette.

The TV anime adaptation of Asa Rokushima and Gyomu Mochi's original novel series, commonly shortened to Chi Fuyo, will air in October 2026 on the TV Tokyo network. The announcement came on June 10 alongside a teaser visual and teaser PV. Daiki Yamashita voices protagonist Rein Garland, an S-rank adventurer banished from his guild who transfers magical power into a copper sword to create a cheat weapon. Lynn voices Lily Flamberge, and Yoshino Aoyama voices Margaret Els. The supporting cast includes Miyu Tomita as assassin Mirabel, Megumi Han as guild master Elsie Zola, Konomi Kohara as receptionist Nina, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Hanbun, Makoto Furukawa as Cornelius, and Rie Shibata as the Assassin Mother. Shibata, known for her comedic roles, commented that she initially did not understand the script but grew to find her character endearing. The director is Osamu Honma, with series composition by Yoko Yoneyama and character design by Yuito Kiyosawa. Animation production is by P.A. Works.

The anime adaptation of Asa Rokushima's light novel series The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a New Life has revealed its cast, staff, and an October premiere date. Daiki Yamashita leads the cast as Rein Garland, with Lynn, Yoshino Aoyama, Miyu Tomita, and others. Shu Honma directs at P.A. Works.

The 57th Seiun Awards winners were announced on Monday. CyberAgent and Cygames Pictures' Apocalypse Hotel original TV anime won Best Media, and its spinoff manga Apocalypse Hotel Pusupusu won Best Comic. Mecha designer Ikuto Yamashita won Best Artist. Other winners included Rokudo Ningen's Labeled Human for Best Japanese Long Story and Iori Miyazawa's "Tokitoki Channel: How to Make Nonexistent Weather" for Best Japanese Short Story.

The Netflix original animated film 'Super Kaguya Hime!' will end its theatrical run on June 18 after a four-month engagement that began as a one-week limited release. The film surpassed 2.5 billion yen in box office revenue. A commemorative stage greeting with the cast and director will be held on June 19.

NHK announced a live-action television adaptation of Kazumi Yamashita's Twisted Sisters manga. The 10-episode series will air on BS and BSP4K starting January 2027. Miori Takimoto stars as protagonist Rikako Ioroi, a manga artist who reunites with her estranged sisters over their dying father's will.
