LiGA DiVeRTiDA, run by Conext Markting Inc., named Kaoru Mourioka special ambassador for THE ONE, the individual futsal tournament. The Season 2 opening match is set for Thursday, October 29, 2026 at Futsal Studio Rise Toyosu in Koto-ku, Tokyo. An individual session from 19:00 lets participants play alongside Mourioka, and a clinic limited to the first 15 applicants follows from 21:00.
Seven Seas Entertainment announced a batch of new licenses on Wednesday, spanning manga and novels. The lineup includes Living With My New Cat, a full-color sequel manga by Fujihito arriving August 2027 in an oversized print edition at $14.99 USA and $19.99 CAN, with an ebook edition planned for digital platforms. Teito Yuzuriha's Zukyun x Bakyun, about two elite assassins who stumble into romance, is set for September 2027. Suzusuke's novel The One-Eyed, One-Armed, One-Legged Sorcerer, with illustrations by Sumihei, arrives November 2026 and follows a legendary magician who emerges from a forest. August 2027 also brings Twinkling Secrets Told Us Tonight Is the Night by NOJIRO GURI. Record of a Reincarnated Chancellor: I Was Summoned by a Hopeless Demon Lord to Rebuild Her Army, written by Panda Pudding with art by Hiyaori, is scheduled for February 2027. Seven Seas separately confirmed audiobook editions for three novels.
Wit Studio president George Wada said Attack on Titan was the only project the studio considered for its first anime. Speaking with Anime News Network at Anime Expo 2026, Wada said he chose Hajime Isayama's manga because it fit director Tetsuro Araki and because the studio's own situation matched the story. "It was the only one," he said when asked whether other options were discussed. Wada said the series helped Japanese anime reach audiences worldwide and showed what Japanese animation could do. He also noted the studio grew from six people to more than 300. Wada said Wit Studio is preparing The One Piece for release in February 2027, and he described some fear and anxiety about the adaptation alongside greater excitement. He also mentioned Tokyo Anime Next, an international animation event in Ikebukuro from October 30 to November 2, 2026.
Netflix used its Anime NYC 2026 presentation to announce release dates and new trailers for several upcoming anime and adult animated series. The biggest reveal was Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which will premiere on Netflix on October 20. The sequel is a standalone 10-episode story set in Night City, following a new cast of characters on a path of redemption and revenge. Studio Trigger returns to animate, with Kai Ikarashi directing in his debut role. The series features Japanese and English voice casts, including Momoka Terasawa and Valeria Rodriguez as Roman Carax, and Akari Kito and Kimoy Lee as Talia Yang. Netflix also announced that Blue Eye Samurai season 2 will arrive in January 2027, with a third and final season planned for 2028. The One Piece, Wit Studio's CG adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's manga, received new key art and a February 2027 premiere date, adapting the first 50 chapters across seven episodes. Bass X Machina, an adult animated steampunk Western created by LeSean Thomas and starring Brian Tyree Henry, will premiere November 3. SAKAMOTO DAYS season 2 got a character trailer and a January 2027 return.
Comedian Daigo of Chidori, executive producer of Disney Plus original variety series THE ONE SHOT, discussed the show in a special interview. Eight comedians he selected will write and direct short films over three months, with one rule: include exactly one joke. The series starts streaming August 12.
The main poster visual, main trailer, and story for V Cinema Next 'Kamen Rider Kabuto: 20th - Heir to the Sky' have been unveiled. The theme song 'NEXT LEVEL Pass the tofu Version' is performed by Yuki Sato, Hidenori Tokuyama, and Kazuki Kato, their first vocal collaboration in 20 years. The film will screen in theaters from November 6, 2026, with a Blu-ray/DVD release on February 10, 2027. An experiential event 'Kamen Rider Kabuto World 20th CAST OFF' will be held starting September 19, 2026.
Netflix unveiled the first episode art for "The One Piece," WIT Studio's remake of the original One Piece anime, during its Annecy International Animation Film Festival showcase on Tuesday. The image, titled "Romance Dawn -Dawn of the Adventure-", matches the title of Eiichiro Oda's manga's first volume and chapter. The streamer also confirmed that Mayumi Tanaka will reprise her role as Monkey D. Luffy, a role she has held since 1999. The seven-episode first season, covering the East Blue saga through the first 50 manga chapters, will run approximately 300 minutes and stream worldwide on Netflix in February 2027. Masashi Koizuka directs, with Hideaki Abe as assistant director. Character designers and chief animation directors are Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda. Taku Kishimoto handles series scripts. The teaser trailer debuted at a separate "Next on Netflix Animation" panel on June 24. The remake was first announced at Jump Festa '24 in December 2023.

All seven episodes will be released simultaneously on Netflix as a global exclusive. The announcement includes a concept art image showing Luffy at Windmill Village's PARTY'S BAR alongside Shanks, Benn Beckman, and Makino. The series is directed by Masashi Koizuka, with series composition by Taku Kishimoto. Character design and chief animation direction are handled by Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda. The adaptation will run through Luffy's encounter with Sanji at the floating restaurant Baratie. The original manga, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997, had surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide as of March 2026.
