Co-op Climbing Game Sunset Summit Reaches Steam

Future Friends Games released the climbing action game Sunset Summit on Steam on September 9, 2026. Developed by Joe Fender and Andrew Fender, the PC title supports solo play and online co-op for up to eight players. Players control a grandpa and grandma who must reach the summit before sunset across 16 climbing courses spread over four floating islands. Each course offers multiple routes, and players need to pick a path they can finish within the time limit. Standard gear includes an ice axe and rope, while drone delivery can bring odd items like parasols, pogo sticks, suspicious medicine, and canned boiled beans. Falling is not the end, as checkpoints allow players to resume, and the game encourages a climb hard, fall hard approach. Communication tools include proximity voice chat and radio transceivers, and a photo mode lets players take selfies. The game supports Japanese and is priced at 580 yen. Joe Fender noted that the game began development in 2021 after DEVOUR, and that seeing the success of PEAK restored his confidence to finish the project.

Elderly Co-op Climber 'Sunset Summit' Sets August 21 Release

Future Friends Games announced on July 27 that the co-op mountain climbing game 'Sunset Summit' will launch on August 21 for PC via Steam. Developed by indie brothers Joe Fender and Andrew Fender, who were part of the team behind the horror survival game 'DEVOUR', the title casts up to eight players as retirees aiming to summit rocky mountains on floating islands before sunset. The game supports solo play and online co-op, with players riding a balloon from a base lodge to the stage and climbing steep routes using axes while managing a stamina gauge. If night falls before reaching the top, it is game over. The design prioritizes fun over frustration, with frequent checkpoints allowing quick respawns after falls. Players can use one-time items like butter candies for double jumps, pills to reduce stamina drain, canned beans for flight, and a staff that returns players to their original spot after a fall. In multiplayer, drones deliver items to teammates, while ropes support climbing and cameras capture commemorative photos. A transceiver enables communication with teammates beyond proximity chat range. The game includes 16 handcrafted routes and supports Japanese display. A demo is currently available on Steam.
