Ikkado Ito's The Long Summer of August 31 manga is getting a television anime by SHAFT and a live-action series adaptation, the manga's official X/Twitter account announced on Monday. The account also revealed an ultra teaser visual for the anime. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga physically, while Kodansha's K MANGA service publishes it digitally.

The special edition of the weekly magazine anan, issue 2510, will feature Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi from the anime film Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising on its cover when it hits shelves on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The cover uses a newly drawn illustration by Kazuki Kawada, the film's main animator, and is credited to the animation studio Shaft. The artwork carries over the cloud imagery from the film's key visual, depicting Madoka in her magical girl form and Homura as a devil smiling gently at each other, with sunlight pouring through gaps in the clouds. The issue includes eight pages of film-related content, headlined by a dialogue between Aoi Yuki, the voice of Madoka Kaname, and Chiwa Saito, the voice of Homura Akemi. It also features solo interviews with new cast members Shion Wakayama and Tomoyo Kurosawa, a dialogue between chief director Akiyuki Shinbo and character designer Ume Aoki, and interviews with scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi and Inu Curry's Doru Nushi, who also drew a new illustration for the issue. The magazine is priced at 880 yen and includes term explanations and character introductions.
Bandai Namco Filmworks announced at Anime NYC 2026 that the Fool Night anime will stream worldwide on Netflix starting November 26, with all episodes released at once. The series is the first collaboration between Sunrise and Shaft, directed by Atsuyuki Yukawa, who previously worked as a unit director on Suzume. The second teaser trailer and new cast were revealed alongside the date. Junya Enoki voices Akira Yatsuki, deputy head of the personnel department at the Fourth Tenka Institute; Aya Endo voices Saeko Kano, a former soldier and Akira's bodyguard; and Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi voices Jin Hiragishi, head of the 'Nashi Division' who hires protagonist Toshiro Kamiya. Previously announced cast includes Kouki Uchiyama as Toshiro Kamiya and Minako Kotobuki as Yomiko Horai. The staff includes series composer Jin Tanaka of Oshi no Ko, character designer Robert Sato, sound director Yota Tsuruoka, and music composer Tatsuya Kato of Dr. Stone. The manga by Kasumi Yasuda has been serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior since November 2020, with 13 volumes released.
The television anime adaptation of Tsumuji Yoshimura's manga Just Like Mona Lisa unveiled its first trailer, lead cast member, and main staff on Saturday, August 1, during a stage panel at the ANImagic convention in Mannheim, Germany. Chika Anzai will voice Hinase, the protagonist who lives without a gender. Kana Shundo, known for Apocalypse Hotel, is directing the series at SHAFT, with CyberAgent managing production. Nobuhiro Sugiyama, whose credits include Arakawa Under the Bridge and March Comes in Like a Lion, is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director, while Yuki Hayashi, composer for My Hero Academia and Medalist, is writing the music. The manga, which ran on Square Enix's Gangan Online website from May 2018 to December 2022, has surpassed 1 million copies in circulation. The series consists of eight main volumes plus companion volumes X and Y. Aniplex of America announced at its 2026 San Diego Comic-Con panel that 'Clockwork Girl,' the first story in Yasuomi Umetsu and Shaft's Virgin Punk original anime series, will be available for digital purchase in September.
