Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 And Elite Extreme Gen 6

Qualcomm announced two top-tier smartphone chips on September 22, 2026: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both are built on the first 2nm process and are designed around AI processing that runs on the phone itself. The CPU reaches 5GHz, and the GPU carries a core dedicated to AI work. The Extreme model adds further gaming rendering and video shooting features beyond the base chip. Qualcomm also disclosed adoption plans, naming the Xiaomi 18 Pro and new Motorola models as devices that will use the silicon. The two chips sit at the top of Qualcomm's smartphone lineup for the coming cycle, with the AI agent framed as the phone's lead function rather than a background utility.

Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Reality Elite SoC for XR Devices

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Reality Elite, a system-on-a-chip for VR, AR, and MR devices, on June 17, 2026. The SoC features up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, a 6-core Kryo CPU, and an Adreno GPU. It will debut in the XREAL AURA glasses in fall 2026 and is also planned for future XR devices. Qualcomm claims up to 30% better CPU performance and up to 60% better GPU performance over the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, along with up to 20% lower power consumption and up to 12°C lower heat generation. The company also introduced the Snapdragon START toolkit for developing small AI devices.
