Amazon Prime Video announced on Thursday that it is producing a live-action series adaptation of Hyuganatsu and Touko Shino's The Apothecary Diaries light novel series, with Mana Ashida cast as protagonist Maomao. The series will stream exclusively worldwide on Amazon Prime Video in 2028. It is co-produced by TOHO and Amazon MGM Studios, with Yuki Saito directing and Erika Yoshida writing the screenplay. A teaser visual featuring Ashida as Maomao was revealed alongside the announcement. Ashida, who said she was already a fan of the novels, described the filming period as one where she poured her heart into her love for Maomao and the series. Original author Hyuganatsu welcomed the adaptation, saying she felt confident after Ashida was chosen, and that she visited the set several times, impressed by the elaborate sets and costumes. The Apothecary Diaries began as a web novel in October 2011, with print novels starting in August 2014 and a manga adaptation in May 2017. The sequel to the 2021 satirical survival game Breathedge follows the same protagonist, an ordinary old man called Man, alongside an AI that lives in his spacesuit and an immortal chicken left by his grandfather. The trio faces Breathedge Corporation, the company behind a galaxy-scale war, exploring abandoned stations and ship wreckage while managing oxygen, temperature, food, and water. Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing its HBO Max streaming service to Japan as add-on subscriptions inside two existing platforms. On September 1, Prime Video announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery that puts HBO Max inside the Prime Video app from October 1. Hulu Japan, owned by Nippon Television, announced the same day that it will launch a new brand, HBO Max on Hulu, also on October 1. The Prime Video offering has two plans: Standard at 1,000 yen per month with up to 1080p, and Premium at 1,400 yen per month with 4K UHD. At launch, subscribers can watch all seasons of House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, and Euphoria, along with films such as Barbie and One Battle After Another. Season 1 of the new HBO original Harry Potter series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is scheduled to premiere at Christmas. A comparison video from YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits shows the Switch 2 and PS5 versions of Metal Gear Solid 4 in Master Collection Vol.2 against the PS3 original. The TV anime The Apothecary Diaries is collaborating with Kimono Rental VASARA and Kabukiza for a campaign running from Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to Saturday, October 31, 2026. The campaign features newly drawn illustrations of Maomao, Jinshi, Xiaolan, and Shisui wearing kimono, a departure from the series' usual Chinese-style court attire. The illustrations depict the four characters heading out into the city in Japanese clothing. The collaboration includes original goods sales, character panel displays, and a limited rental plan. The rental plan costs 4,840 yen including tax and includes an original acrylic stand with a Kabukiza background, which can be combined with separately sold character acrylic stands to form a diorama. Original goods, including trading can badges, acrylic keychains, and muffler towels, are available for purchase without using the rental plan. Comic Days published the final chapter of Yuki Kodama's Agent Jupiter manga on August 20. Kodama launched the series in Kodansha's Morning two magazine in February 2025. The story follows the powerful agent Jupiter, who retires in the parallel world A after completing his quest of revenge for his sister in parallel world B. A young girl appears in his life and turns his plans upside down. Kodansha shipped the third compiled book volume on June 23.
Luppet Technologies began offering its VTuber tracking system LuppetX for free on August 23, 2026, ahead of the company's planned dissolution. The move is meant to let users keep using the software without interruption. The free version is Ver.1.1.0, which requires no account registration or license purchase and retains all functions of the previous paid version. It has been processed for offline use and can be used by both individuals and corporations without restrictions, including for commercial purposes. LuppetX, first released in August 2023, works with a web camera and the LeapMotion tracking device, and also supports the Meta Quest Pro MR headset for face and hand tracking. It includes accessory functions, external motion transmission, and transparent background capture in OBS, and supports the VRM 1.0 3D model format. Support for LuppetX ends on October 4, 2026, when a forced update to Ver.1.1.0 will occur. The server is expected to stop within about one month after that, and versions prior to Ver.1.0.9p will become unusable. Users who cannot receive the automatic update can download the installer directly from BOOTH. No refunds will be issued for purchased licenses, and after support ends, no bug fixes or responses to environmental changes will be provided.
Publisher Curve Games announced 'Dumpster Gang,' a cooperative sandbox action game developed by Coyote House Games, during the Xbox @ gamescom Broadcast 2026 Day 1 showcase on August 26. The game casts one to four players as a gang of raccoons who break into human homes at night, steal household goods, and carry them back to an outdoor hole for collection. Gameplay includes smashing windows with thrown objects, climbing walls to reach restricted areas, and completing stage objectives such as stealing TVs, PCs, trumpets, or gold bars from a safe within a time limit. Mischievous side objectives include knocking over trash cans, brewing coffee, and clogging toilets. As players trash a house, a raccoon exterminator appears, and players must avoid his pursuit, using their small bodies to slip through tight spaces or fighting back with pounces and tools. If caught, a raccoon is placed in a cage, though teammates can rescue them in co-op. After missions, players customize their hideout with stolen items and unlock hats with special abilities. The first boss was Qiongqi, a beast from Chinese classics, who fled mid-fight, leading to a second boss, the dragon Maldrake. The developers said characters are not obtained through gacha but unlocked by playing. Monetization will focus on cosmetic items. The game is free-to-play on PC, with other platforms and the release date undecided. Pre-registration has begun on the official website. The developers aim for a "wide entrance" with low barriers for new players and a high skill ceiling for veterans. They also plan a large RPG-style story map and small-scale PvP content.
HoYoverse announced during gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, streamed on August 26, 2026, that its new slow-life game Petit Planet will release in winter 2026. The game will launch on PC via the Epic Games Store, iOS, and Android with cross-platform support, and pre-registration is now open on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Epic Games Store. A final beta test is scheduled to be held soon, with additional details to be announced at a later date. Petit Planet casts players as a Planet Tender, or Hoshimibito, who nurtures a small planet through activities such as fishing, bug catching, crop cultivation, furniture crafting, and cooking. Players interact with residents called Neighbors, picking fruit and building homes together. Beyond the home planet, players can travel the Starsea to visit Islets, each with its own landscapes and ecosystems, and gather in the Galactic Bazaar, a multiplayer social area. HoYoverse also presented a new trailer at the event showing gameplay footage. Petit Planet is HoYoverse's first life simulation game.
