Kenji Kamiyama Directs New Gundam Series RG XARX-ZERO for 2027
Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the new television anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2026. The series is directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and produced by SOLA ANIMATION. It is the first entry in the RG Project, a multimedia initiative that also includes the action game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. The anime is set in a new timeline separate from the Universal Century. The story begins in A.A. (After Apocalypse) 45, 45 years after humanity abandoned Earth following an attack by a self-replicating alien ecosystem called the Apocalypse. The protagonist, Ray Azumi, is a war orphan voiced by Takeo Otsuka. He pilots the Gundam ZERO, a mobile suit designed by Eiichi Shimizu. The anime takes place roughly 100 years before the events of the game. Kamiyama is writing the series scripts, with Toh Enjoe collaborating on world-building. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
