Jie Tang: Frontier AI Should Be Open and Widely Accessible

Jie Tang, co-founder of Chinese AI company Z.ai, argued that frontier AI should be as open and widely accessible as possible, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg. His statement comes after reports that the Chinese government is discussing restrictions on overseas access to frontier AI models. Tang added that Z.ai will not pursue short-term monetization for the next two years, focusing instead on technological innovation in long-term tasks, autonomous agents, and fully self-learning AI models.
