Valheim 1.0 Launches with No Sequel Planned

Iron Gate's Norse survival game Valheim leaves early access on September 9 with version 1.0, roughly five and a half years after early access began on February 2, 2021. The update adds the final biome Deep North, two new dungeons, rideable moose, and a clear ending, plus an anime opening movie. Creative director Robin 'Grimmcore' Eyre told press at gamescom 2026 that no Valheim 2 is planned. The team had asked the community about a sequel on social media and Discord, and the overwhelming response was to enrich Valheim itself rather than start a new game. Development is expected to continue after 1.0, though Iron Gate has not detailed what comes next. The game launches on PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch 2, with crossplay across all platforms. Steam price is 3,400 yen. Valheim peaked at 500,000 concurrent players on Steam at early access launch and holds about 460,000 user reviews, 94 percent of them positive. Existing save data carries over, but the developer recommends starting fresh for the best experience.
