Darwin's Game Manga Gets Live-Action Film in 2027
Toei announced on July 10 that FLIPFLOPs' manga "Darwin's Game" will receive a live-action film adaptation, opening in Japan on March 12, 2027. The film stars Taishi Nakagawa as protagonist Kaname, alongside Kōki as Shuka, Mei Hata as Rain, Fuju Kamio as Ryuji, and Koji Yamamoto as Hiiragi. Fumihiko Sori, director of the live-action "Fullmetal Alchemist" films and "Hakkenden," directs and co-writes the script with Hayato Miura. The manga, which ran in Akita Shoten's Bessatsu Shōnen Champion from December 2012 to October 2023, has over 10 million copies in cumulative circulation. It follows college student Kaname Sudo, who is drawn into a deadly mobile app game where players fight using supernatural abilities called Sigils. The film's teaser trailer and visual were released alongside the announcement. The original creators FLIPFLOPs stated they asked Sori not to focus on panel-for-panel reproduction but to make the strongest film possible, noting that manga and live-action are different mediums.
