Prologue: Go Wayback! Goes Free to Play After Development Cancellation

PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions released the final update for 'Prologue: Go Wayback!' on June 18, 2026, and made the open-world survival game free to own on Steam and Epic Games Store. The studio, led by Brendan Greene, the creator of 'PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS,' canceled further development due to downsizing and financial difficulties. The game entered early access in November 2025 and received mixed user reviews. The final update adds procedurally generated trails between huts and shelters, a portable weather monitor for planning travel routes, and waterproof spray to protect clothing and items from moisture. It also includes visual improvements, tutorial enhancements, item durability adjustments, and access to a developer build on Steam that allows modding. The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and is not encrypted, so players can open and modify files. Early access purchasers can request unconditional refunds regardless of playtime or purchase date until August 17, 2026. The studio stated that continuing early access under circumstances where development cannot continue was deemed inappropriate. PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions will continue developing its proprietary technology 'Melba.'
