Sunny Side Up will release Happy Kuji 'Sanrio characters PUNKS Party ~ Halloween 2026 ~' at Lawson, FamilyMart, Lawson Store 100, bookstores, and hobby shops starting September 18, 2026. The no-loser lottery features 10 Sanrio characters in punk rock outfits with black-based designs: Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, Little Twin Stars, Pochacco, Hangyodon, Pekkle the Duck, and Tuxedo Sam. Prizes include figures with silver chains and studs, plush charms, chain pouches, pin charms, bandanas, standing mirrors, rubber coin cases, can badge sets, acrylic keychains, and sticker sets with mini files. The grand prize is a large Hello Kitty plush, while the LAST prize, given to the person who draws the final lot, is a 40 cm tall BIG Kuromi plush. Kadokawa released the first main promotional video for the Matsurika Kanriden television anime on Friday, confirming that the rock band KANA-BOON performs the opening theme song "Hana Hanashi" (Flower Talk). The anime, based on the light novel series by Rinne Ishida with illustrations by Izumi, is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 and will air on Tokyo MX, MBS, TV Aichi, and BS11 in Japan. The promo also introduced three new cast members: Takeo Ōtsuka as Tenga Rei, Kōtarō Nishiyama as Shisei Hō, and Shō Komura as Shunsetsu Shō. They join previously announced leads Rie Takahashi as Matsurika Kō and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Emperor Hakuyō. Takeshi Mori supervises the series, Yūichi Nakazawa directs at Maho Film, Tōko Machida handles series composition, Manami Inose designs the characters, and Takurō Iga composes the music. The story follows Matsurika, a court lady at the emperor's inner palace known for her good memory, who meets Emperor Hakuyō and is told to pass the civil service exam before approaching him.
Sanrio announced on August 20, 2026 that its in-house game brand Sanrio Games will exhibit at Tokyo Game Show 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21. The brand, launched in April 2026, will occupy two areas: a general exhibition booth in Hall 8 and the Family Game Park 2026 at TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall. Attendees can try the party game Sanrio Party Land, scheduled for release on October 29 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and the smartphone rhythm game Sanrio Kawaii Me Live!, planned for 2027. The booth will also debut wall-sized game illustrations of the Knights and Lords from Fragaria Memories Color of Wishes. Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll will appear at the booth, with a DJ performance by Kuromi and a live show by Pompompurin. Talk stages feature Shizuku from Polkadot Stingray for Sanrio Kawaii Me Live! and voice actors Gakuto Kajiwara and Shunsuke Takeuchi for Fragaria Memories Color of Wishes. Visitors receive limited-edition sun visors.
Thirdverse released Mayhem Dash: Sky City with Sanrio Characters for Meta Quest on July 31, 2026. The free-to-play social VR racing game, rebuilt from the early access of Hello Kitty Skyland, features races for up to 10 players and begins its first rank season, Founder Season, running through August 28, 2026.
Bandai is releasing Tokimeruzu BOX! Sanrio Characters Sweets Catcher, a set of eight candy-themed figures featuring Sanrio characters. Each figure includes a playable arm that can scoop beads inside a dome. The figures launch in late August 2026 at 1,540 yen each.
Sanrio Puroland will hold its 2026 Halloween event, "PUROMONSTERSCRAMBLE," from September 11 to November 3. The event is themed around a monster Halloween party with the concept "KAWAII x MONSTER HALLOWEEN," featuring Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, and Bad Badtz-Maru in fluffy monster costumes. The event includes the park's first collaboration with LABUBU, the character from POP MART, who will appear alongside the Sanrio characters in various content and goods. A new 360-degree immersive live show, "PUROMONSTERSCRAMBLE PARTY," will debut, featuring the monster Jack O'Happens voiced by Subaru Kimura, with LABUBU as a special guest. The show includes music by FAKE TYPE. and choreography by Harris. A DJ time segment, "PUROMONSTERSCRAMBLE DJ TIME!," will also be held for the first time. The popular attraction Sanrio Character Boat Ride will be offered as a horror version, "Noroware Pierrot," directed and supervised by the haunted house Obaken. Limited-time goods and food will be available throughout the event.
MegaHouse has released a new set of Kaitai Puzzle FANTASY figure-type puzzles featuring Sanrio characters Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, and Pompompurin in tropical colors. The figures feature Aloha-themed designs and tanned appearances, with internal parts also colored. The product is on sale since late June 2026, and a giveaway campaign for a full set is running on Dengeki Hobby Web until July 19.
Details have been released for the limited merchandise and exhibition areas at the Tokyo venue of "Sanrio Characters Exhibition Hotel Floria Tokyo," an interactive event that was a hit in South Korea. The exhibition, planned by South Korean creative company d'strict, features nine Sanrio characters in a hotel-themed space with room tours, a check-in lobby, a garden party, a ballroom, and a beach area. Limited merchandise includes plushies, keychains, luggage tags, magnets, fans, air fresheners, key rings, and badges, priced from 550 yen to 5,940 yen. The event runs from July 15, 2026, to May 31, 2027, at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in Tokyo.

Sanrio announced the results of its 2026 Character Ranking on Sunday. Pompompurin took first place for the second consecutive year with over 7.1 million votes, followed by Cinnamoroll and Pochacco. Over 70.6 million votes were cast. The ranking also included regional results and new categories.
Sanrio Games, the in-house game brand launched by Sanrio, announced its first smartphone title, Sanrio Kawaii Me Live!, a dance and rhythm game for iOS and Android scheduled for release in 2027. The game was revealed during the results announcement stage of the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking event at Sanrio Fest 2026 in Minato Mirai on June 28. It will be free-to-play with in-app purchases and is planned for release both domestically and internationally. Players form a team of six Sanrio characters, tap notes to songs, and can customize costumes and stages. Two modes are available: Performance Mode, with simple controls focused on watching character dances, and Technical Mode, a four-lane rhythm game for higher difficulty. A partial song list includes seven tracks, among them Kuromi's Greedy Greedy and the social media hit Purin to Muffin no Pompom Beat☆. A closed beta test for residents of Japan runs from July 15 to July 21, with lottery applications open from June 28 to July 7. Feedback from the test will be used to improve the game before launch.
Sanrio and Lush have released a limited-edition collaboration collection of seven bath items inspired by characters including Pompompurin, Keroppi, and Gudetama. The lineup features shower jellies, bath bombs, body powder, and a shower gummy, each designed to reflect the character's personality through scent and texture. The collection is available now in limited quantities.
Sega announced new Fluffy Figures and mascot additions for the Sonic & Friends x Sanrio Characters collaboration. The Fluffy Figure Enjoy/Relax series features Sonic characters in Sanrio costumes, including a secret Shadow x Hangyodon variant. Silver, Chao, and Rouge join the mascot series. AMOCAFE will revive its collaboration cafe between Nintama Rantarou and Sanrio Characters from July 2 to August 2 at its Ikebukuro and Namba Marui locations. The menu changes mid-run, with themed food, sweets, and drinks tied to character pairings. Reservations open June 22 at 18:00.

Masayoshi Takanaka and Anri performed a joint special live on June 11, 2026, at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo as part of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK. Anri played city pop hits including "Windy Summer" and "Cat's Eye," while Takanaka played fusion and rock numbers like "Nagisa Moderato" and "Blue Lagoon." The show ran about two and a half hours.
