UK Digital Secretary Lisa Nandy announced a policy to require Apple and Google to block explicit images on smartphones used by children. Talks since June failed to produce an agreement within a three-month deadline, so the government will introduce a framework bill on September 8 mandating device-level child protection features. Apple and Google both said they support the effort and will keep working with UK authorities.

SANDY FLOOR released PengPong on Steam on August 20, 2026. The top-down roguelite has players control a penguin with a hockey stick, scattering enemy hordes. It sells for 1,588 yen, discounted to 1,429 yen until September 4. The demo drew over 30,000 players and 25,000 wishlists.

Medicom Toy is releasing VCD figures of pop artists Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, designed by Eric So. Previously limited editions, they now return as general releases with mini art in dedicated frames. Each figure is about 20 cm tall and priced at 16,280 yen, with a November 2026 release.

Artist Seiji Matsumoto's character ANDY the Mouse is getting a leather goods collaboration with handmade brand OJAGA DESIGN. Eight items, including keychains and card cases, are available for pre-order at the Hikidashi Store starting July 28, 2026. The collection ships sequentially from late August 2026.

Independent creator Andyland released the point-and-click adventure game 'Endacopia' for PC via Steam on July 27. Within 24 hours, concurrent players exceeded 2,500 and have since stayed above 1,000. The game has 375 user reviews at the time of writing, 98 percent positive, earning a 'Very Positive' rating.

Kit9 Studio has temporarily suspended development of the psycho-horror adventure "The Coffin of Andy and Leyley" to address legal issues and malicious actors within the fandom. The studio is creating guidelines for use of its intellectual property that will encourage fan content while allowing stricter enforcement. The next update "Burial" is progressing smoothly and unaffected. The game is in early access on Steam.

The ninth volume of the Handyman Saitou in Another World manga focuses on Lafanpan and the curse afflicting Moonlight Fairies. A key found by Primas leads the party to the Moonlight Forest, where a relic may break the curse. The volume deepens Lafanpan's character and resolves the Goddess of the Moon storyline.

The film adaptation of Andy Weir's novel 'Project Hail Mary' will be available for unlimited streaming on Amazon Prime Video from July 3, earlier than expected. The film, released in March, has grossed over $600 million worldwide. Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who must save Earth.

TinyBuild announced The Lift: Supernatural Handyman Simulator during the Future Games Show: Summer Showcase 2026. The repair simulator adventure, developed by Fantastic Signals, tasks players with maintaining a deserted research facility and repairing a giant Boss Device. Influenced by Soviet sci-fi and the SCP Foundation, it launches in 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Steam playtest begins June 14, 2026.

James Handy, known for roles in 'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'Logan', was stabbed to death on June 3 in Los Angeles. The suspect, Michael Greedhill, the 44-year-old son of Handy's girlfriend, was arrested after confessing. Handy was 81.

The stop-motion TV anime adaptation of Misato Asahi's short film "Candy Caries" will premiere on April 15, 2026, airing within TBS's "Yoru no Branch" program block. A second teaser promotional video was released, showing the construction of characters and items from materials like plastic boards and acrylic. The series is produced by TORUKU from WIT Studio, with Asahi directing. The theme song "Telepathy" will be performed by the girl group IS:SUE, formed from finalists of the survival audition show "PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS." The cast includes Miyuki Sato as Ame, Hana Takeda as Caries, Jin Katagiri as the Mad Dentist, Ryogo Matsumaru as Harold, and Kayo Noro as Ame's mother. The original short film, released on YouTube in March 2021, has accumulated 1.75 million views and gained international attention. All episodes will be available for free on YouTube after broadcast.
