Nexus Mods Acquires SteamDB, Service Stays Free

Nexus Mods, the major PC game mod distribution site, announced on September 2 that it has taken over operation of SteamDB, the unofficial Steam database. SteamDB co-founder xPaw confirmed the move, saying he had been seeking a partner to take over the project for years. SteamDB began in 2013 as a hobby project by xPaw and Marlamin, who later left, leaving xPaw to run the site almost alone. He described the workload as equivalent to a full-time job and said his passion faded through the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of AI, leaving him close to burnout. He chose Nexus Mods because he judged it shared SteamDB's identity and community values. Nexus Mods stated that SteamDB will remain an independent service, keeping its name, brand, and community, and that all currently free features will stay free, with no ads planned and no Nexus Mods account required. The company plans to invest in SteamDB's infrastructure, security, and scalability, and to use SteamDB's historical data on game builds and updates to improve mod compatibility checks, though those features are still at the concept stage. xPaw will support the transition over the coming months.

Radeon RX 9050 Review: 92W RDNA 4 Card Hits Japan Market

AMD released the RDNA 4 entry-level Radeon RX 9050 graphics card for sale in Japan on July 31, 2026. The card is positioned below the RX 9060, which is itself the lower model of the RX 9060 XT. All RX 9050 models currently on sale are 8GB VRAM versions, with the 4GB version being OEM-only. The expected street price is around 55,000 yen, but the cheapest RX 9060 XT 8GB model is available for 54,000 yen, creating a price inversion that the review notes makes the RX 9050's initial price hard to justify. The card has a board power of just 92W and uses a single 8-pin auxiliary power connector. It features 16 compute units, 1,024 stream processors, and 32MB of Infinity Cache. Because it is RDNA 4, the RX 9050 can use FSR 4 and features included in FSR "Redstone," including Ray Regeneration and AI-enhanced frame generation. The review tested the ASRock Radeon RX 9050 Challenger 8GB, available for 54,800 yen, against the GeForce RTX 5050 and the re-released GeForce RTX 3060 12GB.
