2K announced at PAX West 2026 that Sid Meier's Civilization VII will receive a free update, Arc of Tomorrow, in 2027, adding a fourth era, the Atomic Age, spanning the 1950s to the 2050s. New civilizations and leaders, including Gandhi, plus nuclear warfare systems and multilateral agreements, are included. A paid expansion, Earthrise, was also announced.
2K announced the first expansion DLC for Sid Meier's Civilization VII, titled Earthrise. The space-themed expansion adds celestial charts in early ages and space agencies in later ones, with missions across the solar system. Players can also reshape Earth's terrain and mitigate climate change effects. A free update adds the Atomic age in 2027.
NVIDIA announced on September 1 that DLSS 5, its AI-driven rendering technology, will launch on September 3 Pacific Time and debut in the PC version of NBA 2K27, which goes on sale September 4 Japan time. The technology, first detailed at GTC in March and expanded at gamescom 2026, introduces 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, which uses AI to add photorealistic lighting and material detail to frames rendered by the game engine. It is available on GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs and GeForce NOW. The release follows a controversy in March when a demo video showed original graphics being transformed, and an early access version of NBA 2K27 on August 26 contained files for the technology, leading users to apply it to games like Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V. NVIDIA states that in officially supported titles, artists control the scope and intensity of the effect, and that whether to make images more realistic is a creative decision. Visual Concepts Senior Producer Peter Kavic said the technology improves material and lighting quality while allowing control to match existing art direction.
2K and Hangar 13 released The Man of Honor, the expansion for Mafia: The Old Country, on August 15. The DLC depicts Don Salieri's origins in 1905 Sicily. The four-game bundle Mafia: The Silent Oath Collection is discounted to about 6,500 yen on each platform until late August.
2K Games announced the establishment of Small Axe Studios in Vancouver, Canada, built from its Sports Lab project that began in 2023. The studio is led by Aaron McHardy, a former EA Vancouver producer on FIFA and Madden NFL, and includes other ex-EA developers. The sport of its first title has not been disclosed.
2K released the official gameplay trailer for NBA 2K27 on July 31. The game launches September 4, 2026, with early access on August 29. A live stream, Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Information, airs August 19 at 2:00 AM Japan Time on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and X. New features include expanded badges, unified Auction House, and a neon-lit City.
2K announced Season 8 for NBA 2K26 will launch on June 26, 2026. The season features Shaquille O'Neal on the cover and includes new content for MyCAREER, MyTEAM, The W, and The Park. Rewards include G.O.A.T. player cards, a remastered Old Town court from NBA 2K15, and a Pro Pass with premium items.
2K released the paid Bunbu Ryodo Collection DLC for Sid Meier's Civilization VII on June 24, 2026. Part 1 adds Toyotomi Hideyoshi as a leader, Heian Japan and Sengoku Japan as civilizations, and four wonders. Part 2, coming later, will add Yi Sun-sin and the Goryeo and Joseon civilizations. A free Update 1.4.1 also launched, adding Hot Seat multiplayer and system adjustments.
