Panache Digital Games released the Early Access version of its action adventure 1666: Amsterdam for PC on August 26, 2026. The game is led by Patrice Désilets, creator of Assassin's Creed, and is set in 17th-century Amsterdam, where supernatural events occur every 333 years. Players control two protagonists: Noah, a woman raised by a coven of witches who uses magic and curses, and Aaron, a university professor from the year 2000 whose consciousness is transferred into a black cat. By day, Noah uncovers the identities of demons called the Originals, who hide among citizens; by night, during the full moon's Esbat, she confronts them. The game is priced at 3,850 yen, with a 10% launch discount on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Désilets said the team plans four major updates over the next year, timed to the lunar cycle. Patrice Désilets, the creator of the early Assassin's Creed games, has apologized after it was pointed out that generative AI images were used in the reveal and promotional materials for his studio Panache Digital's new game, 1666: Amsterdam. In an interview with Eurogamer, Désilets apologized again following a statement on June 9, saying, "No AI assets will be in the final product" and "We will reduce their use going forward." However, he drew a distinction between AI-generated assets included in the game and using AI tools during development, expressing a positive view of using them as efficiency tools in early development. He said, "With generative AI, you can create 75 variations in three seconds" and added, "We live in a world full of AI. Let's be honest with each other." These remarks have drawn criticism. The outlet Aftermath criticized the development approach of justifying AI use for convenience while hiring professional artists, as well as the lack of awareness regarding concerns about generative AI. On Reddit, critical comments included, "Do they think game development was impossible before AI?" and "If all you think about is cutting corners, neither the creators nor the players can be passionate," with some linking the issue to layoffs in the gaming industry. 1666: Amsterdam is scheduled for early access release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on August 25, 2026.

Panache Digital Games announced that early access for its PC action-adventure game '1666: Amsterdam' will begin on August 25, 2026 (August 26 Japan time), priced at $29.99. The game is set in 17th-century Amsterdam and follows Noa Brooklyn, a magic-wielding 'Collector' who hunts the 'Originals,' demons disguised as humans. On full moon nights, called 'Esbat,' the Originals reveal themselves, and Noa uses magic, staves, and spells to fight them. The game also features a second protagonist, Aaron, a cat who can use agile movement, a unique perspective, and mind control to explore and interact with important people. Players switch between Noa and Aaron to pursue conspiracies and restore harmony. The early access build includes the beginning of a campaign expected to take about 15 hours, with plans for multiple major updates over roughly one year to add story, areas, and targets. A free prologue demo, '1666: Amsterdam (Prologue),' is available on Steam and Epic Games Store. The studio was founded by Patrice Désilets, former creative director of 'Assassin's Creed.'
