Nidhogg Gets Rollback Netcode Update With New Training And Spectator Modes

Messhof has released an update for Nidhogg, the 2014 fencing-style competitive action game. The patch adds rollback netcode, a new online menu, friend invites without the Steam overlay, low-ping matchmaking preference, and no joining lobbies with an AFK opponent. A training mode with CPU opponents on any map and a CPU-versus-CPU spectator mode are included. Japanese is supported, and the game is 65 percent off until October 21, 2026.

The update also reworks how players connect. Matchmaking now prefers opponents with low ping, and the system avoids placing players in lobbies where an opponent is AFK. Friend invites work from a new online menu without opening the Steam overlay.

Beyond netcode, the patch adds a training mode for solo play against a CPU on any map and a spectator mode for CPU-versus-CPU matches from the menu's bonus section. The update includes in-game display of patch contents, support for the latest Mac, and minor fixes and UI changes. Japanese is selectable, following a 2025 beta branch that added 14 languages on Steam.
