Michael Japanese Dub Sets Mamoru Miyano As The King Of Pop

Michael Japanese Dub Sets Mamoru Miyano As The King Of Pop

A Japanese dub of Michael, the biographical film about Michael Jackson, opens at 225 theaters nationwide from October 30. Mamoru Miyano voices Michael (Jaafar Jackson) and Akio Otsuka voices Joseph (Colman Domingo). Wendarland Asada George plays young Michael and Kyoko Sakai plays Katherine. A trailer is out. In Japan the film has drawn over 5.56 million admissions and 8.7 billion yen.

The dub adds a second Japanese cast on top of the original. Wendarland Asada George voices the young Michael (Juliano Valdi) and Kyoko Sakai voices mother Katherine (Nia Long).

Miyano said he wanted to answer the love the production team had for Michael, and that he traced each step of the King of Pop in the role. Otsuka, who was born a year after Jackson, said he played Joseph's strictness as rooted in the wish to raise his son as an artist rather than in money. The film is produced by Graham King and directed by Antoine Fuqua, with Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson starring.
